25,000 youth from Mumbai and Pune to get trained under the Foundation’s SMART programme
10th February 2016, Mumbai: The Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department, Government of Maharashtra and Tech Mahindra Foundation (or TMF, the corporate social responsibility arm of Tech Mahindra Limited, a Mahindra Group Company), entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, the 10th February 2016, to skill 25,000 youth from the State by 2020.
The MoU was signed by Sri SS Sandhu, Principal Secretary – Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Department, on the behalf of GoM, and Sri Vijay Wavare, Head of Operations, Maharashtra for Tech Mahindra Foundation. Sri Vijay Waghmare, CEO of Maharashtra State Skill Development Society (MSSDS), along with senior officials from both organizations were present at the occasion.
“We acknowledge and appreciate Tech Mahindra Foundation’s efforts in the direction of Skilling India. We also recognize that SMART is an end to end solution, which plays a crucial role right from mobilizing youth into opting for skill training till placing them in jobs”, said Sri Sandhu.
“We are grateful to Government of Maharashtra for recognizing and supporting our work towards making a skilled India. We hope to be able to make a difference to more lives with this generous backing from the MSSDS”, said Sri Wavare.
The Foundation will train students under its flagship SMART (or Skills for Market Training) programme, a model vocational training programme for the underprivileged, which allows them to actualize their potential in a career of their choice. MSSDS will support the initiative for a period of five years.
The Award-winning programme is operational in ten cities across India, and has already trained and placed over 35,000 youth with some of India’s leading brands. According to a recent independent impact assessment study by KPMG, the programme has a social return on investment (SROI) index of 13.29, that is, for every ₹ 1 invested, it has generated ₹ 13.29 of social value.
