SMART+ was launched in 2013, soon after a heartwarming response and overwhelming success of the SMART programme, to include youth with disabilities under the skilling initiatives of the Foundation.
This enabled youth with a diverse range of disabilities – sight impairment, hearing / speech impairment and loco-motor disabilities – to receive hands-on training and exposure on the rich curriculum and resources of SMART.
The trades available on the SMART+ programme, in addition to the Foundation Course, include
- IT-Enabled Services (ITES) / Business Process Outsourcing (BPO)
- Customer Relationships and Sales (CRS)
During 2015-16, the SMART+ programme trained more than 1,400 youth with disabilities and placed them in jobs over a range of industries and companies, through 7 centres at 6 locations – Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.
In the current year, the programme has expanded to 11 centres at 8 locations, with a new centre at Bhubaneswar. The programme will train over 1,900 youth with disabilities in 2016-17.
